August 11, 2005:

Gail Cook-Bennett, Chairperson of the CPP Investment Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Honourable Frank Iacobucci, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, as Conduct Review Advisor effective October 2005.

In this part-time role, Mr. Iacobucci will counsel CPP Investment Board directors, employees and outside parties who seek confidential guidance on ethical matters in relation to the Board's Codes of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Procedures.

Mr. Iacobucci's long and distinguished career includes work in the judiciary, academia, government and private practice. Born in Vancouver, Mr. Iacobucci holds Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Laws degree and Diploma in International Law from Cambridge University.

In 1964, he began his career in the practice of corporate and securities law at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood in New York City. From 1967 to 1985, he was a professor of law at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, eventually serving as Dean of the Faculty of Law and Vice-President and Provost of the university. During his last three years at the University of Toronto, Mr. Iacobucci was also a Commissioner of the Ontario Securities Commission.

In 1985, Mr. Iacobucci was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Canada. Three years later, he was named Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada, and in 1991, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.

During his career, Mr. Iacobucci has published five major books on business law as well as many articles, papers and reports. He holds honorary degrees from universities in Canada and abroad and is an Honorary Fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge, and the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Iacobucci has also received numerous civic awards in Canada and Italy.

Following his retirement from the Supreme Court in June 2004, Mr. Iacobucci served as Interim President of the University of Toronto. In July 2005, he joined Torys LLP as Counsel to the firm's members and clients on legal and policy matters.

The position of Conduct Review Advisor was established by the CPP Investment Board in 2003 to supplement its Codes of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Procedures. "On request, the Advisor's role is to help individuals make appropriate decisions in the face of complicated choices where there may be no clear or obvious answer," said Gail Cook-Bennett.
