  Mark Wiseman

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mark assumed the role of President and CEO in July 2012 and is responsible for leading the CPP Investment Board and its investment activities.

Mark joined the CPP Investment Board in June 2005 as the organization’s Senior Vice-President, Private Investments. He was later named Executive Vice-President, Investments, responsible for managing all of the investment activities of the CPP Investment Board – Public Market Investments, Private Investments and Real Estate Investments.

Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board, Mark was responsible for the private equity fund and co-investment program at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Previously, Mark was an officer with Harrowston Inc., a publicly traded Canadian merchant bank and a lawyer with Sullivan & Cromwell, practicing in New York and Paris.  He also served as a law clerk to Madam Justice Beverley McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada. From 2004 to 2007, Mark was Chairman of the Institutional Limited Partners Association, a non-profit organization committed to serving limited partner investors in the global private equity industry.

Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Mark holds a BA from Queen’s University and a law degree and MBA from the University of Toronto. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at Yale University, where he obtained a masters degree in law and is a certified member of the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors. 

In 2006, Mark was named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. He is a Board member for the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG) and serves on the board of several not-for-profit organizations, including the Capital Markets Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Right to Play International. He is also a past Chairman of Youth Without Shelter, an emergency shelter for homeless youth.

  André Bourbonnais

Senior Vice-President, Private Investments

André is responsible for leading private equity investments in the CPP portfolio.

Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board, André managed a private equity portfolio in financial services, telecommunications, media and entertainment sectors for another Canadian pension plan manager. André has more than 20 years of experience in executing investment transactions.

André also spent several years with a leading telecommunications company mostly as a senior officer responsible for corporate development and legal affairs.

André started his career as a corporate lawyer with a major Canadian law firm and then a consultant for a European merger & acquisition consulting boutique. He earned his degrees from the London School of Economics and the University of Ottawa.

André also serves as director of Anglian Water Group Ltd. and IMS Health Inc.

                                                                                                                                                                         
Private Investments Team

John H. Butler John H. Butler

Senior Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

John brings a wealth of legal and business experience to his position as Senior Vice-President - General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He spent 22 years with Torys LLP (and its predecessor firm), most of that time as partner, and served as the firm's Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. While with Torys, he was seconded to executive positions with Royal Trustco, Bramalea Limited, Brookfield Development Corporation and First City Capital Markets. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President, Corporate Development for Barrick Gold Corporation.

John was appointed Vice President - General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in October 2003.

John earned his LLM and LLB degrees from Osgoode Hall, York University, and received his BA in business administration (Gold Medalist) from Wilfrid Laurier University. He was called to the Ontario Bar (Silver Medalist) in 1979.

Graeme Eadie Graeme Eadie

Senior Vice-President, Head of Real Estate Investments

Graeme is responsible for the global real estate program which encompasses both equity and debt investments.  Operating out of London, Hong Kong and Toronto the department is active in seven major developed and four developing countries. 

Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board in June 2005, Graeme held multiple roles including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and President of Cadillac Fairview.  Graeme has also held senior management positions with a number of entities in the retail and manufacturing areas and formerly was a Trustee of the Morguard Real Estate Investment Trust and a Director of the Ontario Realty Corporation.

Graeme earned his B. Comm. and M.Sc. (Business Administration) degrees from the University of British Columbia.

Pierre Lavallée
Senior Vice President and Chief Talent Officer

Pierre leads the global Human Resources team of CPP Investment Board, including talent acquisition, training and development, international mobility, and compensation and benefits.  He also sits on various investment committees. Pierre joined the CPP Investment Board in April 2012, as Vice-President and Head of Funds & Secondaries in the Private Investments department.
 
Prior to joining CPPIB, Pierre was the Executive Vice President, Reitmans (Canada) Limited, based in Montreal.  Before joining Reitmans, he spent over 18 years with Bain & Company in Toronto.  Pierre led Bain’s Canadian practice in retail, telecom and private equity.  He also served as Managing Partner for Bain & Co. Canada and served on the firm’s Operating Committee for several years.  Before Bain, Pierre spent 5 years with the Government of Canada as a Trade Commissioner in the Department of External Affairs and International Trade, serving in Ottawa and Japan.

Pierre holds a Bachelor Social Sciences (Hon. Economics; summa cum laude; Gold Medal) and an M.A. (Economics) from the University of Ottawa.

  Michel Leduc

Senior Vice-President, Public Affairs & Communications

Michel joined the CPP Investment Board in July 2011 and leads the team responsible for the overall reputation management of the CPP Investment Board as well as preserving and protecting its governance model and investment mandate.

A senior communications professional, Michel has over 20 years of experience in the areas of public affairs, government relations, corporate communications, social responsibility and branding. Most recently, he was Vice-President, Public and Corporate Affairs at Sun Life Financial where he oversaw the company’s global public affairs, corporate communications and brand management functions. He has also held positions at the Canadian Bankers Association and the Canadian Payments Association.

Michel has also recently been on the board of directors of the Canada China Business Council and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance. He holds a B.A. in Law from Carleton University.

  Mark Machin

President, CPPIB Asia Inc.

Mark joined the CPP Investment Board in March 2012 and is responsible for leading the organization in Asia.  Prior to joining CPPIB, Mark had a 20 year career at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Vice Chairman of Asia ex-Japan, based in Beijing.  Mark has been based in Asia since 1994 where, among other roles, he ran the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in Asia ex-Japan for six years.  Previously, he also ran Goldman Sachs’ Equity Capital Markets and Financing businesses in Asia.  Mark was a member of Goldman Sachs’ Asia Management Committee and the Firmwide Capital Committee. 

Mark holds a BA from Oriel College, Oxford and BM BChir from Downing College, Cambridge.

Donald M. Raymond

Senior Vice-President and Chief Investment Strategist

Don is responsible for overall fund level investment strategy. He chairs the Investment Planning Committee, which approves all new investment programs and oversees all portfolio risks, including passive, active, credit and liquidity risk. Prior to this role, Don built and led the Public Market Investments department transition from external passive equity investing to the development of a wide variety of sophisticated internal active capabilities across all asset classes.

Prior to joining the CPPIB in 2001, Don worked for Goldman Sachs for seven years. He joined their Toronto office as a fixed-income strategist before moving to the Quantitative Strategies group in New York with responsibility for global equity and fixed-income portfolios. He began his investment career as a research analyst in the fixed-income derivatives department of Burns Fry, a predecessor of BMO Capital Markets.

Prior to developing an interest in finance, Don worked for Schlumberger in China and trained as a pilot in the Canadian military. He holds a PhD in engineering from Queen's University and a CFA charter. Don is currently Chair of the International Centre for Pension Management at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and a Trustee of Queen's University.

Benita M. Warmbold Benita M. Warmbold

Senior Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer

Benita is responsible for the treasury, investment risk, operations, investment finance and technology functions within the CPP Investment Board.

Prior to joining CPP Investment Board, she spent 11 years as the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for Northwater Capital Management Inc. where she was a member of the Senior Management Team and was responsible for operations, finance, risk management, compliance, regulatory affairs, and treasury functions.  With over 25 years of finance experience, she previously held senior positions with Canada Development Investment Corporation and KPMG.

Benita is active on several boards, including Canada Development Investment Corporation (a federal crown corporation), Queen’s School of Business Advisory Board (at Queen’s University) and Alzheimer Society of Toronto (a charitable organization).  She is also a member of the Audit Committee of Queen’s University and the Executive Committee of the Toronto Financial Services Global Hub Project.

Benita was recognized as a Top 100 Most Powerful Women – Corporate Executives Category in 2009.

Benita holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

  Eric M. Wetlaufer

Senior Vice-President, Public Market Investments

With over 25 years of experience in investment management, Eric is responsible for leading the CPP Investment Board’s Public Market Investments department, which invests in publicly-traded assets and related derivatives.

Prior to joining CPPIB in June 2011, Eric was the Group Chief Investment Officer, International at Fidelity Management & Research in Boston, Massachusetts. Eric was also the co-founder and partner of Oxhead Capital Management and has held the roles of Chief Investment Officer of U.S. Mid Cap and Specialty Growth at Putnam Investments and Managing Director at Cadence Capital Management.

Eric serves on the Board of Directors of the TMX Group and the Advisory Council of the UN-backed PRI. He is also active on several non-profit boards including Bay Cove Human Services and the Melanoma Foundation of New England and is a past president of the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Eric earned a B.A. in Earth Science from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Nicholas Zelenczuk

Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer

Nick has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and prior to joining CPPIB in 2009 was the Senior Vice-President, Audit and Risk Management for BCE Inc. Earlier in his career, he served as President and CEO of Deutsche Bank Canada and has held a variety of senior financial positions at CIBC Wood Gundy and at Citibank Canada’s investment banking division.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Lisa A. Baiton

Vice-President, Public Affairs

Lisa Baiton is Vice President of Public Affairs overseeing both the international and domestic public affairs programs at CPPIB.  Lisa has over 20 years experience in progressively senior executive leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining CPPIB, Lisa served as Vice President and Practice Lead, Government Relations for Environics Communications Inc., a North American full-service public affairs firm where she provided executive-level counsel to large corporate clients. She has also worked for one of Canada's largest industry associations, the Canadian Bankers Association, and for senior Cabinet Ministers and a Premier within three governments (Saskatchewan, Federal, and Ontario).

Originally from Saskatchewan, Lisa has a BA in Political Science (University of Saskatchewan), and a MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University) and the Schulich School of Business (York University), with global electives completed at Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. She is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) and has subsequently received her ICD.D certification. She is an active volunteer, currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Canada-China Business Council.

  Peter Ballon

Vice-President, Head of Real Estate Investments - Americas
 
Peter is responsible for CPPIB’s real estate in the Americas which currently encompasses investments in Canada, the US, Mexico and Brazil. Prior to his current role, Peter lead the investment teams for the US and Brazil. Peter is also a member of CPPIB’s Real Estate Investment Committee which has oversight for CPPIB’s global real estate investments.

Peter has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2007, Peter worked with several leading real estate companies including Canderel, Brookfield and TrizecHahn.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business.

Susan Bellingham

Vice-President, Business Planning and Enterprise Risk Management

Susan leads the business planning function and oversees the enterprise risk management framework for the CPP Investment Board.

Susan brings over 20 years of experience in the pension and investment industry including 14 years at Manulife Financial where she was on the Senior Management Team of the U.S. Retirement business and for the last three years, was in the corporate office as the Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management.  Prior to joining Manulife, Susan held pension plan consulting roles at both Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson).

Susan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Toronto, is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Alain Bergeron

Vice-President, Public Market Investments

Alain joined the CPP Investment Board in 2003 focusing on building active investment programs. He is currently responsible for advancing strategic initiatives and furthering the thinking on how to exploit CPPIB’s strategic advantages in public markets investment strategies. Prior to this role, he built and led the Global Tactical Asset Allocation group, led the External Portfolio Management group, and helped build the Global Corporate Securities group. Before CPP Investment Board, Alain was at TD Securities where he traded derivatives on various asset classes. He has also taught finance courses at HEC Montréal.

Alain holds a M.Sc. in Financial Engineering from HEC Montréal, a CFA charter and a CMT designation. He is a recipient of the HEC 2009 Relève d'Excellence award, which recognizes leadership excellence under 35.

Alain Carrier

Managing Director (Europe), Private Investments
Head of Infrastructure

Alain is responsible for leading the Private Investments department in Europe and the global Infrastructure group. Based in London, England, he also assists in the overall development of the CPP Investment Board’s activities in the broader EMEA region.

Alain has more than 17 years of financial industry experience. Prior to joining CPPIB, Alain was most recently Managing Director at Goldman Sachs & Co. in their Investment Banking division in New York and London. Prior to that, he was an Associate at the New York-based law firm, Sullivan & Cromwell.

He holds a Bachelor of Law from Laval University in Quebec City, a Masters in Law (D.E.S.S.) from the Sorbonne in Paris and a Masters in Law from Columbia University.

Edwin D. Cass Edwin D. Cass

Vice-President and Head of Global Tactical Asset Allocation

Ed leads the investment team that implements global macro views for the Public Market Investments Department within CPPIB.  The GTAA portfolio is comprised of a diversified set of proprietary views on a broad range of assets including fixed income, currency, equity, volatility and commodities. Ed was previously responsible for heading up the Global Corporate Securities and Global Capital Markets groups at CPPIB. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was Managing Director and Co-Chief Investment Officer for Fortress Investment Group’s Drawbridge Relative Value Fund where he was responsible for the development and execution of fixed income, currency, stock index and commodity trading strategies. With over 15 years of investment experience, Ed previously held senior positions at Deutsche Bank Canada and TD Securities.

Ed holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Theoretical Physics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Kevin Cunningham

Vice-President and Head of Global Capital Markets

Kevin is responsible for leading the Global Capital Markets team and ensuring the efficient management of the passive portfolio, as well as best execution services for all publicly traded securities, whether arising from passive or active investment programs across the entire Fund.

With more than 25 years of financial industry experience, Kevin possesses extensive international trading experience, product knowledge, and investment experience in the global financial markets, including 12 years with Goldman Sachs, & Co. in New York, Tokyo, London, and Toronto. Most recently, as a Senior Advisor, he provided strategic and operational consulting services to established and start-up hedge funds. Previously, he was Partner and COO of Lucerne Capital Management LLC, an SEC-registered investment advisor with global operations.

Kevin holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan and B.A. in Mathematics from Carleton College.

Richard Egelton Richard Egelton

Chief Economist and Vice-President, Economic and Research Services

Rick is responsible for leading the economic group to support medium and longer-term total portfolio decisions.

He has 25 years experience as an economist at BMO Financial Group and the Government of Canada. Most recently, he was Senior Vice-President & Chief Economist at BMO Financial Group where he spent the last 12 years focusing on North America and key emerging market economies. Prior to this he spent 13 years with the Department of Finance Canada where he held a number of senior positions with increasing responsibilities for economic analysis and forecasting, including General Director, International Trade & Finance.

Rick sits on the Advisory Board of the John Deutsch Institute, Queen’s University. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Queen’s University and Bachelor of Arts, Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Jim Fasano
Vice-President and Head of Funds, Secondaries and Co-Investments

Jim is responsible for leading CPPIB’s Funds, Secondaries and Co-investments group. He had previously led CPPIB’s Principal Investing group.

Prior to joining CPPIB in 2004, he worked in the Investment Banking group at Merrill Lynch & Co., focusing on companies in the media and telecommunications sectors. Previously, he was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions group at RBC Capital Markets and a Commissioned Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Royal Military College of Canada and an International Master of Business Administration degree from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business.

He currently serves on the boards of NEWAsurion, LHP Hospital Group and Cequel Communications. He is a former director of AWAS Aviation Capital, IMS Health, and Kinetic Concepts.

  Chris Hawman

Vice-President, Integration Management

Chris leads the Integration Management function, which focuses on the development of the cross functional investment and operational capabilities required to support CPPIB’s long-term objectives. He also oversees program prioritization, delivery and governance.

Chris has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services sector and was most recently Director, Architecture and Technology Services at CPPIB.  Prior to that, he held increasingly senior technology responsibilities with firms including Blackmont Capital, HSBC Securities and Merrill Lynch.

Chris earned an M.A. from Queen’s University and a B.A. (Hons) from McMaster University.

Martin Healey

Vice President and Head of Private Real Estate Debt

Martin heads the Private Real Estate Debt investing team at CPPIB Credit Investments Inc., a subsidiary of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).  In addition to his real estate debt responsibilities, Martin also serves as a member of CPPIB’s global investment committees for all real estate equity transactions and all forms of credit investment. 

Since joining CPPIB in 2005, Martin has led the development of a number of new investment programs, making CPPIB’s first real estate equity investments into the U.K., France, Germany and Australia, before founding the Private Real Estate Debt group in early 2010.

Prior to joining CPPIB, Martin held transactional roles in the real estate investing, commercial lending and investment banking industries, based in the UK, Canada and the United States. He holds a B.A. (Honours) in Marketing from the University of Strathclyde, in Scotland and an M.B.A. with emphasis in Real Estate from the University of California, Berkeley.

Wenzel R. B. Hoberg

Managing Director and Head of Real Estate Investments - Europe

Wenzel is responsible for CPPIB’s European Real Estate Investments. He joined CPPIB’s Toronto office in 2007 as Vice President Real Estate Investments - International and relocated in 2009 with his team to the newly opened London office as Managing Director and Head of Real Estate Investments - Europe.

He has over 15 years of real estate investment experience gained from senior positions including Head of Asset Management for the German shopping center manager ‘mfi Management für Immobilien AG’ and Head of Global Acquisitions at the German open ended fund manager ‘Commerz Real AG’.

He holds an executive post-graduate degree in real estate from the European Business School and a Master’s of Science in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics from the University of Wisconsin where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Wenzel is also a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in the UK.

James Hughes

Vice-President, Investment Risk

James is responsible for leading the Investment Risk function within CPP Investment Board with accountabilities for the measurement, analysis, and oversight of risk across all of the investment portfolios.

Prior to joining CPP Investment Board, James worked for BMO Financial Group where he held a number of increasingly more senior roles over a 13 year period.  Over the last several years as a Managing Director, he had responsibility for the global risk oversight, valuation, reporting and analytics, and infrastructure functions within the Market Risk group.

James holds a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Toronto.

  Jeffrey Hurley

Vice-President and Head of Technology

Jeffrey is responsible for leading the Information Technology team within the Treasury, Risk, Operations, and Technology Group. His team is responsible for enabling CPPIB’s investments through an architected, resilient, and appropriate global application system, data, network and technology infrastructure.

He has over 20 years of experience in managing diverse technology environments within Fortune 500 firms including extensive international experience. Jeffrey has held senior level roles with Lehman Brothers and Nomura Securities where he led major build-outs of technology in support of capital markets businesses in both Asia and the U.S. including leading global teams in New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.

Jeffrey holds a BA from California State University, Fullerton and an MBA from the University of Southern California. Jeffrey is passionate about leading people and has played key roles in talent development through facilitated programs on influencing, managing conflict and leadership. He is actively involved in Toastmasters International and other charitable organizations dedicated to developing leaders.

Mark Jenkins Mark Jenkins

Vice-President and Head of Principal Investments

Mark oversees the CPPIB's  multi-faceted global private debt and direct private equity programs. Previously, he was Managing Director, Co-Head of Leveraged Finance Origination and Execution for Barclays Capital in New York. Prior to that, he spent over 11 years at Goldman Sachs & Co. in senior positions within Fixed Income and Financing Groups in New York. He also held senior finance roles at Laidlaw Inc.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and is a Chartered Accountant.

Malcolm Khan

Vice-President, Investment Operations

Malcolm leads the Investment Operations team within the organization’s Treasury, Risk, Operations and Technology Group. His team is responsible for providing operational support to our Public Market Investments division, managing operational risks, and promoting scalable solutions in order to sustain our growth.

Malcolm has over 25 years experience at Scotia Capital and The Bank of Nova Scotia, which includes  operational management experience, project management and re-engineering experience, trading and operational risk management experience, and three years as an Assistant General Manager of Risk Management. Malcolm’s last assignment was within the Global Equities Division of Scotia Capital as Director of Business Planning and Chief Operating Officer.

Malcolm holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Jean-François L’Her

Vice-President and Head of Investment Research

Jean-François is responsible for the identification and modelling of risk/return characteristics of all active programs and new asset classes across the total investment portfolio.  Jean-François was most recently Senior Vice President, Investment Policy Research, at Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec, where he led the investment research, investment policy and macroeconomic research areas.  Prior to joining CDP, Jean-François was an Associate Professor of Finance at HEC Montréal.  Having written several articles for academic and professional journals, Jean-François serves as a referee for a few journals, and is on the Financial Analysts Journal Editorial Board. He is also a member of the board of directors of CIRANO (an interuniversity centre of research, liaison and transfer of knowledge on the analysis of organizations), and IFM2 (Institut de finance mathématique de Montréal).

Jean-François earned both his Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Finance from Université Laval and is a CFA charterholder.

Scott Lawrence Scott Lawrence

Vice-President, Head of Relationship Investments

Scott leads the team responsible for making significant minority investments in public companies seeking a constructive, longer-term relationship with the CPP Investment Board. He has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services sector. He joined the CPP Investment Board’s Private Investments department in 2005 as a Senior Principal in the Infrastructure Investing group. Prior to that, Scott was an investment professional at Onex Corporation and held various positions in both finance and operations at GE Capital Real Estate and GE Plastics.

Scott holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Queen's University.

  Paul Mullins

Vice-President and Head of Asset Management

Paul is responsible for leading the Asset Management Group, supporting management of the individual investments in creating value for the Private Investments portfolio.

Paul has over 16 years of experience in commercial and operational improvement. Paul was most recently part of the portfolio team at Permira Advisors LLP. Prior to this, he was a Partner and Managing Director at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where he was head of the Private Equity practice for the UK and was responsible for advising firms on multiple transactions as well as driving strategy and operational change.

Paul holds an MA/MChem from the University of Oxford.

Jimmy Phua

Vice-President and Head of Real Estate Investments (Asia)

Jimmy is responsible for CPPIB’s real estate in Asia. He has over 20 years real estate experience in Asia having worked out of Singapore, South Korea and currently based in Hong Kong. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2008, Jimmy worked with several leading real estate companies including ING Real Estate. He was responsible for setting up ING Real Estate’s business in South Korea.

Jimmy holds a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Science (Estate Management) from the National University of Singapore and a Masters in International Management from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Chris Roper

Vice-President and Head of Short Horizon Alpha

Chris joined Global Capital Markets at CPPIB in 2008 focusing on active management programs. He is currently responsible for developing shorter term active strategies on a broad range of assets including fixed income, currency, equity, commodities, volatility and credit. Chris has over 15 years of investment and trading experience with both domestic and international institutions.  Prior to joining CPPIB, he was Managing Director Securitization and Structured Finance at BMO Capital Markets, Co-Head Structured Finance at Scotia Capital, and traded exotic options and derivatives at Citibank.

Chris holds a degree in Engineering Physics from McMaster University and an MBA from Queen’s University.

Mark Roth
Vice-President, Business Management in Public Market Investments

Mark Roth leads the Business Management function for the Public Market Investments Department within CPPIB. As a member of the PMI management team, Mark oversees the non-investment financial and operational aspects of CPPIB’s business. In this role, he manages and executes the strategic and financial objectives of the business, and partners with CPPIB’s Treasury, Risk, Operations & Finance groups to ensure appropriate and coordinated support for the organization.

With over 25 years of diverse financial roles, Mark brings both broad and deep experience in the operational, finance and risk aspects of CPPIB’s business. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was most recently Chief Global Market and Operational Risk Officer at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.  In addition, he has held senior positions at Bassini Playfair Wright (New York and Sao Paolo) and Deutsche Bank (London and New York).  Before his investment career he held management-level positions in the service industries.

Mark also serves as President of Hadassah Associates, a 35,000 member global non-profit organization focused on healthcare, education and social services.

Mark is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University where he earned a B.A. in Economics, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Barry Rowland

Vice-President and Head of Internal Audit

Barry was previously a senior partner in the Risk Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young, where he provided public and large private entities with assurance, regulatory, risk management and internal audit services in Canada and the United States.  He has over 20 years of experience, including enterprise risk management and internal audit within the financial services sector.

As Head of Internal Audit, Barry leads the team of professionals who execute the mandate on behalf of the audit committee of the Board and senior management.

Barry holds an Honours BA from York University and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business.  He is a CA and a CPA, as well as a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors Program.

Geoffrey Rubin

Vice-President and Head of Portfolio Management

Geoffrey leads the Portfolio Management group, helping manage the systematic risk and allocation of active risk across the active investment portfolio.

Prior finance roles include positions with Fannie Mae and Capital One Financial, where he managed the global balance sheet.  He also ran a consulting practice and was Adjunct Professor at American University Kogod School of Business.

Geoffrey holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.

Cheryl Swan Cheryl Swan

Vice-President and Head of Treasury Services

Cheryl leads the Treasury team within the organization’s Treasury, Risk, Operations and Technology Group. Her team is responsible for cash management as well as treasury and funding services across the portfolio. Cheryl has more than 16 years of experience in the financial services sector and was most recently Vice-President, Corporate Segment Finance at TD Bank Financial Group. Prior to that, she held increasingly senior roles at TD Bank Financial Group and at Canada Trust, before its acquisition by TD. Her responsibilities have ranged from funding strategy and treasury accounting functions to oversight of bank-wide liquidity measurement, compliance, monitoring and regulatory and Board reporting. Prior to joining Canada Trust, she held roles at Price Waterhouse and Denison Mines.

Cheryl is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

  Jay Vyas

Vice President and Head of Quantitative Investing

Jay leads the Quantitative Investing group in GCS within the Public Market Investments department.   He has over 20 years experience in the field of quantitative investments.  Prior to joining CPPIB in 2010, Jay was a co-founder and Chief Investment Officer at Vyas Capital Management.  Before that, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Portfolio Management Process in Barclays Global Investors' Alpha Strategies Group, a portfolio manager at Martingale Asset Management, and he worked at Barra Inc. where he began his career.

Jay holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Poul Winslow

Vice-President and Head of External Portfolio Management

Poul leads the team responsible for selecting and managing relationships with external managers across a wide range of active mandates. Poul has more than 18 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board, he was Chief Investment Officer of Fund and Manager Selection at Nordea Investment Management. He was also Chief Investment Officer of Andra AP-fonden (AP2) which manages approximately $30 billion within Sweden’s national pension plan framework.

Poul obtained his undergraduate and Masters Degree in Economics and Finance from Aarhus University in Denmark.

David Yuen

Vice-President and Head of Fundamental Investing

David joined the CPP Investment Board in September 2012 in the role of Vice-President, Head of Fundamental Investing within the Public Market Investments department.

Prior to joining CPPIB, David held the positions of Chief Investment Officer, Global Value Long and Short Equity Strategies, and Co-CIO and Director of Research, U.S. Large Cap Value Equities at Bernstein Value Equities, Alliance Bernstein LP.

During his tenure at Bernstein, David also held various roles including Director of Research – U.S. Large Cap Value Equities and Director of Research – Emerging Market Value Equities.

David began his career with Bain & Company in Boston and then joined William Kent International to develop emerging markets initiatives where he was promoted to Partner. He then joined the Coleman Company to develop a business strategy for growth in China, ultimately acting as Senior Vice President, Managing Director, Coleman Asia Limited.

He holds a B.S. in Operations Research from Columbia University, New York, N.Y.
